KEMAT Polybutene is used in the formulation of Cosmetics and Personal Care
KEMAT polybutene is used in the formulation of eye makeup, lipstick and skin care products because it is a pure and clear, non-drying, sticky liquid, light in colour. It is safe for use in skin applications, it is non-skin irritating, non-drying and hydrophobic. It is also non-comedogenic (prevents blocked pores) and non-toxic.
Polyisobutene dries to form a thin coating on the skin and is used to hold together the ingredients of a compressed cake. Hydrogenated Polyisobutene acts as a lubricant on the skin’s surface, which gives the skin a soft and smooth appearance.
In cosmetics and personal care products PIB functions as a:
- binder: to hold together the ingredients of a compressed cake or tablet.
- epilating agent: to be heated, applied to the skin and stripped off quickly to remove unwanted hair.
- viscosity increasing agent (non-aqueous): to increase the thickness of the oil portion of cosmetic products.
